Share your thoughts and stories... blog today!

Prompted by her vow, Mother Teresa of Calcutta developed the habit of responding immediately to the demands of the ‘present moment.’ She would insist that “it isn’t important to look for big things, just do small things with great love... The smaller the thing, the greater must be our love.”

In an effort to respond to the demands of the ‘present moment,’ we now offer this Malvern Retreat Blog. If you are a CA Captain, a recruiter or an individual seeking to enhance the retreat experience at Malvern, this is your place to communicate with all of us. Share your thoughts, stories, reflections and practical tips with us to help make a Malvern Retreat House retreat a life-changing experience. Blog today!

And be sure to visit our Website at MalvernRetreat.com

    Pornography?

  2. Yes, on specific Saturday's for the men's retreat weekends, the issue of pornography is discussed. In addition, we are planning Evenings of Reflection on the topic of pornography, particularly internet pornography. Be sure to check our News and Events page as we develop these unique retreats.

  3. Look up the King's Men on your computer. This is a group of young men in the Philadelphia area committed to eliminating pornography in the Philadelphia area. I personally know these men and you will find support with them.

  4. THE THUNDERING SILENCE-My Reflection on the Power of Men's Retreat at Malvern Retreat House

THE GREAT 20TH CENTURY SPIRITUAL WRITER AND TRAPPIST MONK THOMAS MERTON OFTEN DESCRIBED THE MONASTERY AT GETHSEMANE AS “THE THUNDERING SILENCE”, A HOLY PLACE WHERE THE MIGHTY VOICE OF GOD COULD ONLY BE HEARD IN THE SACRED SPACE OF EACH MONK’S SMALL ONE ROOM CELL.

MALVERN RETREAT HOUSE IS AS CLOSE AS MANY OF US WILL EVER GET TO THAT MONESTERY- AND BEGINNING TONIGHT, WE ARE THE “WEEKEND MONKS”MINUS FOR THE MOST PART THE ROBES, THE CHANTING, AND LONG FLOWING BEARDS.

YOU KNOW, MY FATHER, JOE (ALIAS “MOSES”) REILLY BROUGHT ME HERE IN 1972 AND WE ALWAYS STAYED IN THE SAME HALLWAY A FEW ROOMS AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. IT WAS A COMFORT TO HAVE HIM NEAR ME-
BUT THANKFULLY NOT TOO CLOSE FOR HIS SNORING TO KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT. EACH YEAR SINCE HE PASSED- ONWARD, AND SURELY UPWARD- I CAN STILL IMAGINE THE SOUND OF HIS 4-PRONGED CANE STRIKING THE FLOOR FOLLOWED BY TWO SMALL AND SLOWLY-PACED STEPS APPROACHING MY DOOR AND ASKING, “JOE, YOU AWAKE YET? AND INVARIABLY I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT: “I AM NOW THANKS TO THAT RACKET YOU’RE MAKING…” BUT SAID INSTEAD,, I’M UP DADDY, I’M UP”

LIKEWISE, THE HISTORICAL MOSES – THE ONE IN THE BIG BIG BOOK- DIDN’T HEAR THE LORD IN THE CHAOS OF THE WHIRLWIND. NO, MOSES OF BIBLICAL FAME HEARD GOD IN THE STILL SMALL VOICE, IN THE QUIET AS HE PASSED BY

MOST OF US DON’T GET THAT CHANCE TO LISTEN TO HIM WITHOUT CELL-PHONES AND E-MAILS AND WORK AND FAMILY COMITTMENTS- EXCEPT TONIGHT, TOMMORROW AND SUNDAY.
THAT’S ALL YEAR… AND SOME OF US REALLY WANT AND NEED IT

MALVERN IS A PLACE OF GRACE, SO PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A MAN IN THE ROOM NEXT TO YOU WHO HAS HIS EAR TO THE GROUND AND IS LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF THAT STILL SMALL VOICE THAT CALLS TO EVERY ONE OF US.

YOUR RESPECT FOR HIM IN THE PEACEFUL PRIVACY OF HIS TINY CELL IS WHERE HE MIGHT HEAR AGAIN THE VOICE OF HIS HEAVENLY FATHER, HIS HIGHER POWER THE LOVING BOSS OF THE UNIVERSE,- AND IF YOUAND I ARE TRULY SILENT, HE MAY EVEN HEAR HIS DAD AS WELL. – IN THE THUNDERING SILENCE.

  5. I have been making a yearly retreat with the Our Lady of Peace group in September at the Malvern Retreat House. This is one of my favorite retreats and places to go since it's the only place where I can just be alone without my cell phone. Where else can you go to meet Jesus in a beautiful chapel or during the wonderful stations of the cross in the woords? To make a retreat at Malvern will change your family and will bring your heart to new life. I love Malvern.

  6. In regards to retreat dealing with pornography: Probably the best weekend experience out there for someone struggling with sexual addiction is a program through Faithful and True Ministries: http://www.faithfulandtrueministries.com/

  7. I have been interested in a retreat for over a year. I was at a local Beef and Beer and as I was waiting for my husband to get our coats I started looking at a board with multiple flyers. I went directly to Malern retreat house. I never knew a place like this was so close. Does anyone have a suggestion for my first time retreat. I'm catholic and attended catholic school 1-12. I'm in need of something???

  10. Every retreat at Malvern is unique. If you choose a traditional men's retreat, the schedule is listed under "Choose a Retreat." If you are interested in a retreat with a specific theme, the schedule varies according to the request of the retreat director. Our office staff will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding a retreat. Generally, all retreats include inspirational talks, Mass, Reconciliation, quiet time and adoration. Again, how the schedule flows depends on the retreat director.

  12. I don't know if this helps but if you all are short on money. Tell people they can send money that can later be used for a retreat. You could have a year or two cut-off so when the money is not used by a person then it could possibly be classified as a donation! Also if you are having cash flow problems call Mike Cooper (Cooper Management) in Lexingtion Kentucky to see how you are investing your money to possibly help you get a better return!
    2nd opinions no hurt!

  13. Its incredibly important to live in the present moment....but so few of us do. We are encumbered with so many thoughts of things past and to come. Retreats are a wonderful way to force your mind and your body to take a time out!

  14. I am a teacher and a fellow teacher and I, both women, are interested in a summer weekend retreat. What are the weekends available during the summer months and what are the themes planned. I hope this isn't too far ahead of schedule!

Unfortunately Johnntte Benkovic had to cancel in July but we are looking to fill that weekend. So please look at our website MalvernRetreat.com and go to Women's retreats to see if we have something that will fit your schedule. Thank you for your interest!
