The Retreat Day for the Unemployed
Share your thoughts about the first retreat day for the unemployed. Tell us how the day affected your life.
One of The Best Days of My Life! There was something so special for me speaking to this receptive and welcoming crowd of 200 about "Letting go of the old job so as to welcome the new job." When I shared with these good people that they were not here based on any personal failure I meant it with all of my heart but the statistic of 5.1 million people being out of work in the US alone since December, 2007 makes that abundantly clear.
We can survive things. God will provide the grace. We are faith filled people! So we cling to those who love and support us and we turn toward our mates, family and friends and not against them.
Don't forget to keep up the daily exercise, watch the alcohol, no smoking, do that networking, work the internet, take some risks, think about what you are good at and think outside of the box and remember to give and get lots of hugs. If you feel depressed see your doctor to help you through this period. Of course don't forget to have some fun whenever you can and pray that as you search for your next job, that job is looking to find you.
I was asked today to comment about how faith enters into our job searches. I think our faith in the good God is directly linked to our hope. When we believe this deeply we can survive these painful blows of job loss.
So stay hopeful dear friends of Malvern Retreat and keep up those prayers to St. Joseph the Worker!
To My Friends Who Attended Our St. Joseph The Worker Retreat Day.

I would like to know if there will be another retreat for the unemployed in the future. I didn't find out about the last one until the day it was occurring, and would love the chance to attend one. I lost my job at Merck after 20 years and have been unemployed since last November.
I would like to encourage everyone searching for employment to think outside of your normal box. Think about what you have always done well with naturally. For example, are you good at talking with people? Are you easy with being by yourself in a quiet space? Are you interested in making food? Have you always enjoyed being around animals? You may not have made money doing what you enjoyed in the past but you have a chance to try it now.
I realize it's not easy looking for a job. It's really hard. And I know many good folks still struggling but I also know eleven people who this time last year were not working and now are so don't give up and remember that the Lord is never outdone in generosity so do something once a week for someone worse off because someone always is as we well know.
